I'm quite fascinated by the variety of uses motorcycles in Southeast Asia have. So I have embarked on a quest, purely by accident mind you, to take pictures of the strangest and most creative uses for motorcycles. I hope you enjoy this picture. On our way to the Makassar airport we pass the vege guy. He's loaded his motorcycle to the max - getting the worse possible gas mileage (kilometerage) that one could for a vehicle of this size. Notice though, his creative use of the space in front of him. Why not drape long beans over this area of the motorcycle? What else would it be used for otherwise? I think he could go into the hall of fame like many New Yorkers (referring to their apartments in this analogy) for "best use of space".
All arrivals in another country require the essential trip to the Hard Rock Cafe to eat and thence acquire a t-shirt that says Hard Rock Cafe and has the name of the country on it. This we did upon our arrival to the comparitively efficient city of Kuala Lumpur.
I have to say we really like this city. Maybe it was the comparison to Indonesia in terms of efficiency, low corruption (at least the obvious kind), cleanliness, diversity, good tourism and overall just an interesting city with a variety of things to see and do. Sadly, coming back to Manila was a little bit of a downer, just for the fact that sometimes (when you're feeling like complaining about something) it just doesn't even seem like there's an effort made to clean up the city as a whole and to move about efficiently. In Kuala Lumpur, they drove in their own lanes and yielded to pedestrians, etc. People were polite and helpful, but not overly servitude (I'm not sure if I said that well, but hopefully you get the idea). It was refreshing at this point in our SE Asian adventure.
So here we are on the viewing deck of the KL tower. Looks kind of like a space needle or something. Doesn't Seattle have one of these? It's on a not so small hill and you take the elevator up and can see the entire city. Really nice and no lines first thing in the morning. Basically it looks like an upside down green onion with a bulb at the top. You can kind of see the shadow in this picture.
